IMPORTANT CROSS COUNTRY NEWS - NEW VENUE (announced 31/5/10)
Due to the problems associated with the upgrading the Geelong Racing Club's all weather track, the event has been transferred to Eastern Gardens. All other arrangements remain unchanged.How to Contact the Zone Officer

Barwon Zone Dates - Team events
Winter Sports Team Championships - Football, Soccer, T Ball and NetballThe Zone conducts competitions to determine which teams will represent the Zone in Boys/Mixed Football, Girls and Boys/Mixed Netball, Girls and Boys/Mixed Soccer and Girls and Boys/Mixed T Ball at the Regional Championships. The winners of the Zone Championship are decided through a Lightning Premiership of between 5 and 8 teams. If there are less than 5 teams nominated, the winner will be decided through a ‘knock out’ competition. If more than eight teams are nominated in a particular sport, some schools will be required to play a ‘knock out’ game to reduce the number of teams to eight.
To be eligible to participate in the Zone Winter Sports Teams event, the team must have won the District competition.
Tuesday 15th June 2010: - The names of all District Winter Sports Winning Teams to be emailed to the Zone Officer by 4pm.
By Thursday 15th July 2010 - Preliminary rounds (to reduce the number of teams to 8) in netball, football and any other sport which has over 8 teams (The draws to be circulated to the participating schools on Wednesday 16th June)
Monday 26th July 2010: - T Ball Lightning Premierships played at Stead Park, Corio
Tuesday 27th July 2010: - Soccer Lightning Premierships played at Myers Reserve, Bell Post Hill
Wednesday 28th July 2010: - Football Lightning Premierships played at South Barwon Reserve, Belmont
Thursday 29th July 2010: - Netball Lightning Premierships played at the Life Be In It Stadium, South Geelong

Friday 13th August- Region Winter Teams Sports playoffs held at Geelong College. (Venue and date to be confirmed)

Summer Sports Team Championships - Basketball, Softball and Volleyball.
Cricket is run by the VCA and will be in the form of Kanga Cricket, not 'traditional' cricket as occurred in past years. The competitions to qualify for the Regional finals will be held in Term 4.
Monday 13th September 2010: - District entries for Summer Sport Championships close
During the first four weeks of Term 4 (4th October – 29th October) – Where there is insufficient numbers for a Lightning Premiership ie less than 5 schools, schools to play ‘knock out’ games to determine the Zone Champions.

Hockey 7's
Wednesday 23rd June 2010 - Closing date for entries for State competition. The competition is organised in Melbourne by the VPSSA Head office.
Rugby League
The closing date for the Mod 8's entries for State competition is to be advised.
The competion is orgainsed by the Victorian Rugby League Head Office.

Thursday 2nd September 2010 - Entries for Zone Athletics Championships close
Districts can nominate two competitors in individual track events, one competitor in field events and one relay team in each event.
Tuesday 14th September 2010 - Zone Athletics Championships at Landy Field, South Geelong. The back up date is Thursday 16th September 2010.
Cross Country
Thursday 27th May 2010 - Zone Cross Country Championships entries close
Tuesday 8th June 2010 - Zone Cross Country Championships @ Geelong Racecourse
There will be qualifying times (achieved at the District event) for all competitors.
Districts can enter 6 competitors in each event. There will be Boys and Girls events in the 9/10, 11 and 12/13 age groups.
Schools with students with disabilities are encouraged to nominate them to compete in the AWD event that is run on the same day.
Golf
The program is organised by the Victorian Golf Association. The 2010 qualifying rounds in the Barwon Zone will be at East Geelong Golf Club (2nd August), Torquay Golf Club (5th August) and Clifton Springs Golf Club (6th August). Regardless of which school a student attends, he/she may may compete at any of the courses. Students can only compete at one venue.. Swimming
Wednesday 17th February 2010 - Zone Swimming entries close
Friday 5th March 2010 - Zone Swimming @ Kardinia Pool. The first event begins at 9:15 and the last event finishes at about 2:45.
As there are very few District or School swimming carnivals, qualifying times have been set for all events.
Friday 19th March 2010 - Region Swimming @ Kardinia Pool
Tennis
Early March 2010: - Entries for State Championships close. Date to be advised.
22nd April 2010: - Regional Tennis @ Geelong - Boys/Mixed and Girls. The competition is conducted in District based teams of three players.
Meetings for District Secretaries
Monday 22nd February 2010 - It is expected that all District Secretaries will attend the Moneghetti Region Conference. The VPSSA will provide CRT Coverage and the Barwon Zone will provide transport if it is necessary to travel out of Geelong. The venue will be confirmed early in February.Thursday 26th August 2010 - District Secretaries Meeting with the Zone Officer. The meeting will be held at Roslyn Primary School and commence at 4:30.
Students trying out for VPSSA Teams
This process is to gain selection as a member of a VPSSA team participating in the National Championships. More information about the expected standard of nominations and the process can be found under the Barwon Zone "Other" pageCRICKET
18th February 2009 - Nominations for the VPSSA team close with the Victorian Cricket Association.
FOOTBALL, NETBALL, SOCCER, HOCKEY
ALL NOMINATIONS MUST COME THROUGH THE SCHOOL AND DISTRICT SECRETARY. ANY STUDENT WHO DOES NOT FOLLOW THE PROCESS OR IS UNAVAILABLE, FOR ANY REASON, ON THE DESIGNATED TRIAL DAY CANNOT BE CONSIDERED.
During Term 1 - Each District develops an agreed process to decide how students will be selected to be nominated to participate in the Zone Selection Trials.
Schools call for nominations and submit the names of the ‘well above average standard’ students to the District Secretary.
Thursday 25th March 2010: ALL Exchange Nominations to be received by the Zone Officer by 2 pm. The forms of all nominated students must be fully completed, including having original signatures and all sections filled in, and sent to the Zone Officer by the District Secretary. Nomination forms submitted by anyone other than the District Secretary, without all of the necessary documentation or not on the original form will not be accepted.
Thursday 6th May 2010 - Combined Zone and Regional Basketball Trials at the Life Be In It stadium in South Geelong. Students are to register at 11:30 and the trials copmmence at noon. The trial is expected to conlude with the naming of the students progressing to the State level trials by 2pm.

The trials will be held at Geelong College (Aberdeen Street Newtown). Students are to register at 11:30 and the trials copmmence at noon. Rugby League
23rd April 2010 - Nominations for State team close with the Victorian Rugby League.
The trial will be held on Friday 30th April at Fryer Reserve (West Fyans Street Newtown) between 1:00 and 2:30.
SOFTBALL
Schools send the nomination forms to the Stae Coordinator, Andrea Thwaites.
RESPONSIBILITIES AT VPSSA EVENTS
ZONE EVENTSREGIONAL EVENTS
The Barwon Zone will be required to provide an equitable share of officials at the Swimming and Athletics events. Schools releasing a staff member to officiate at a Region event will be reimbursed.
STATE EVENTS
At this stage, it is unknown as to how many officials we will need to provide. Schools releasing a staff member to officiate at a State event will be reimbursed.
